St. Louis

We stayed the night at a town called Joplin.
After dinner we were entertained by a ‘lovely’
lightening display in the distance and during the
night the thunderstorms travelled overhead.
We really are in the middle of the tornado area
so as long as it’s just thunder and lightening
I’ll be happy. I know you’re supposed to travel
to experience new things but I draw the line at
snake bites and tornados!!

A long day of travel. From Joplin in Missouri,
through St Louis to Champaign in Illinois. About
425 miles. Like I said, a long day.

St Louis Arch
The tallest monument in the USA

I’ll remember St Louis as the city where I saw
the most graffiti so far. Unlike NZ, the USA
I’ve seen so far is amazingly graffiti free.
There were many derelict buildings and a
huge
(really huge!!) hill to the left of the freeway
as we were leaving the city. It was the old
rubbish dump and was enormous.

The famous Mississippi

one of the many derelict buildings that we passed.

no matter where we have been so far, we can always see or hear the railway.

A really big pile of rubbish. I always wondered what hills were made of!
