Indiana - Elkhart County
We had picked up a guided tour CD of the area yesterday so for the
next few hours we did some sight seeing .... great idea .... we could stop and start whenever we pleased.
The
Amish area is absolutely gorgeous. The homes and yards are immaculate with buggies parked in the garages or driveways and
horses either in stalls or grazing in the fields. We even saw a field being worked with real horsepower.
Lots
of foals are around at this time of the year. I guess having your ‘transport’ reproduce is a major plus.
Sure beats having to update the family car every few years!
The Farmers Market we stopped at was an amazing
place.

Artist's impression of the Elkhart Farmers Market |
Three stories of produce and crafts in one huge beautiful building. Such a shame I can’t take
home more ‘stuff’! There was even a stall selling buffalo meat.
As we drove I had started to notice what looked like dog kenneling in some yards. Not
just a single dog kennel but set ups a lot like I had when I showed dogs. My suspicions were confirmed when we started
to pass the occasional home made road sign advertising AKC puppies for sale. I saw Bichons, Boxers, German Shepherds, Pugs
and even French Bulldogs being advertised. What a pain parents can be!
When I yelled “STOP, French
Bulldogs!” they wouldn’t!!!!
Further on the tour, at a place called Shipshewana we found
the most beautiful gift store that was just full of gorgeous things. One part was entirely full of Xmas decorations. Really
strange to see at this time of the year. Even so, it was stunning. (Yes.
It’s me the Xmas grooch!)

I loved this table display |
This area of the shop was absolutely breathtaking. I still wish I had bought the beautiful
Buffalo ornament that I saw here.
