Pennsylvania

We’ve travelled from Ohio to Pennsylvania today, mostly on the freeways.
The last part of the day was driving on smaller local roads through Gettysburg.
There’s so much more to see on roads like this. Tomorrow we’ll
be sightseeing around Gettysburg, the day after, the Harley Davidson factory.
Tonight we are staying at the camping
ground in the Codorus State Park. It’s a lovely place. I’ve heard lots of different birdcalls but it’s difficult
to see who’s actually making what call. I must be missing the noise of parrot squawking because I bought a toy
parrot today that talks and squawks. I knew I couldn’t go too long without a bird ‘fix’.
Today being a Saturday there have been a lot of people out enjoying their weekend.
The
sport fields have been full of kids playing baseball and I even saw one field where there were a few games of soccer going
on.
Harleys are a very common sight here of course and today there seem to
have been more than usual. It’s seems normal to me now to see riders wearing no leathers (it’s so hot) and no helmets. It looks like an awesome way to keep
cool in this heat but I’m not sure about the bugs stuck in the teeth!
I’ve been surprised at how little livestock I’ve seen since
being here. Most of the farming seems to be cropping. Today was the first decent sized herd of cows I’ve seen
since being here, apart from the poor cattle I saw in Texas. I think I could count the number of sheep I’ve
seen on my fingers. I’ve seen more goats than sheep. Yesterday we even saw some Bison on an ordinary farm!
