Joshua trees growing in the Mojave desert. These trees can live hundreds of years and actually
need the freezing temperatures of a desert winter before they will flower.
5
hours travelling through the desert and we are now in Las Vegas. Strangely enough my weather forecasting finger told
me it was going to rain and sure enough it did. We were driving through the Mojave Desert and it started raining!

Arriving in this amazing city after so many hours of desert road was quite
outrageous. In daylight the buildings glitter in the sun. Many of them looked like huge coloured mirrors reaching up into
the sky and as the sun set the city seemed to take on a life of its own as it transformed into an illuminated wonderland.
The lights were incredible. The whole city seemed to pulse and there were people everywhere.
We are staying at the Palms casino hotel and yes; I’ve just been
to the Hart & Huntington tattoo studio, which is down in the lobby.

Nope, I didn’t get a tattoo; I’m way too poor. I even tried
to win enough to get one done by playing the slot machines. But I’m a total Scrooge and only played $1, so no
tattoo for me. I really must be my father’s daughter because he was as stingy as me, only he won $3. Still
not enough for a tattoo though.

The Palms complex is enormous and includes picture theatres, a concert
theatre, a food hall, restaurants, bars, lounges & night clubs. There's even a night club that has a retractable roof.
You can spend your casino and slot machine winnings in the gift shops and jewellers and stay in the gorgeous hotel.
There's even a palm reader in the lobby just in case you need to check out your luck (or lack of it!)
Tomorrow we’re travelling to Arizona and as the time difference between
Los Angeles and here means it’s actually an hour later than it feels (too
weird!) I guess I should go to bed.
